"That there's no crime."

"There's possibly no crime," Grace said, "which is worse. Everything in that file is either legal or unprovable, and the two unprovable bits — the bank note and the tender leak — depend on documents a seventy-one-year-old man obtained in a way he won't explain. You'd hand it in and fourteen months later a very polite officer would tell you it's a commercial dispute." She pushed the file an inch away from herself. "That's not me refusing to help. That's me telling you what happens if you do the correct thing, so that you never in your life get to say nobody told you."
