Vivienne Hale came to the Wakefield site in November, on the day they turned the sign back on.

It was not a ceremony. Amelia had refused a ceremony. It was two hundred people in a cold yard at four in the afternoon in a fine drizzle, and a man from maintenance in a cherry-picker, and somebody's kid with a phone, and then the lights on the gate came on — MARCHETTI, 1961, in the letters her grandfather had chosen — and everybody cheered for nine seconds and then went back in because it was freezing.
