The law centre was two rooms over a dry cleaner's with a laminated sign in the window and a queue.

There were eleven people in the queue at half past four on a Wednesday afternoon. There was a woman with two children and a carrier bag of paperwork. There was a man of about seventy in a suit that had been good in 1994. There was a very young man asleep sitting upright.
