He told her the truth, and it took eleven minutes, and she had to sit down for the last four of them.

He had known since the fifteenth of June that it was not his heart. The doctor at the clinic had told him the arteries were clean before he was properly awake, and had used the word toxicology, and by nine o'clock that morning the sample was gone and the doctor was extremely apologetic and had never mentioned it again.
