They buried her on the Thursday at St Mary-at-the-Weir, in the churchyard, eleven rows from Iris Vane.

There were three hundred people. There was the whole of the history faculty and a man from the Bodleian who had corresponded with her for six years and never met her, and about ninety from the town, and eleven of those knew exactly what they were standing at the edge of and stood there with their hats in their hands and said nothing.
