She asked him in the sixth year, on a Tuesday, when nothing was happening, exactly as she had said she would.

She was twenty-six. She had been the assistant archivist for four years and the archivist for one, and there was a grey hair she had made an enormous performance about in the spring, and a fortnight earlier a first-year in the Fisher had called her ma'am and she had come home and sat on the end of the bed with her coat on for twenty minutes.
